Black Friday Shoppers Hit Kingsport Stores Before Dawn In Search Of Deals
KINGSPORT — Experienced as well as novice Black Friday shoppers came out the day after Thanksgiving, overfilling parking lots and store aisles across the Model City.
Kingsport stores began doorbuster specials for Black Friday — thus named because for many businesses it historically has marked the first day the retailers go from a loss to a profit for the calendar year — as early as 3 a.m. this year, with more coming at 4 a.m., 5 a.m., 5:30 a.m. and 6 a.m.
Shoppers in Kingsport lined up at Old Navy at the Kingsport Pavilion for its 3 a.m. opening.
“It was really packed,” 14-year-old Courtney Nelson of Bristol, Tenn., said while resting with her cousin at the Kingsport Town Center. “We just went it, and it was too crowded so we went back out.”
Courtney and her cousin, Chantay Puckett, 13, of Bristol, Tenn., said they go Black Friday shopping every year and went to Wal-Mart this year. They said they had found most of the deals they sought, including clothes.
