SEBRING - Once Highlands County residents have stuffed themselves full of turkey, they can stuff their shopping carts full of Christmas gifts as the holiday shopping season officially kicks off Friday.

As in most years, those wanting to secure the best deals on Black Friday had better be prepared to be that early bird.

Both the JCPenney and Sears stores in Lakeshore Mall will be opening their doors at 4 a.m.

"They'll be doorbusters going on from 4 to 1 (p.m.)," said Bruce Horne, manager of JCPenney.

The JCPenney flyer advertises doorbuster items like women's boots for $29.99, 1/2-carat T.W. diamond necklaces, bracelets or earrings for $79.99 or 1/5-carat T.W. diamond stud earrings for $49.99.

Home Depot's hours will not change for Black Friday. Their doors open at 6 a.m. and close at 9 p.m. They will offer $400 worth of savings on a pair of Maytag washers and dryers, a RIGID dry/wet vacuum for $19.88 and a Makita 18-volt Hammer Driver Drill & Impact Driver combo kit for $199.

Q:Are whirlpool tumble dryers any good?

Q: I'm housesitting for someone, and of course my second time using the dryer, it stops working. I heard a small snap "towards the end of the cycle, and now it will not work at all. There is power, as the light that lights up when I open the door, and I can hear the timer is running if I turn the dial round, but the dryer does not turn. Is there a fuse inside or something? I know there is a thermal fuse, but I thought it would only prevent the machine heating, no running altogether. Ideas?

A(!): You're right about the thermal fuse to a point. It depends on the age and type of hair that you do not mention. The new machines are a couple of fuses, which has closed the office when things go wrong, the older just closed everything, including the engine, with a fuse. Kind of curiosity about noise small snap you say you hear towards the end of the cycle. This could be a belt popping off the tension and break and fall.You said you could hear the timer running, and while not impossible, it is more likely that what you are hearing, if it was a broken belt, the engine was making its whirring sound because it works without a belt on her.
