QA: Whirlpool Washing Machine

Q: My washing machine stopped spinning a week ago. Clothes are soaked to the left end of the cycle. When I open the washer lid there a burning smell from the washer. No smoke, just fire. My husband replaced a safety switch that has to do with opening the lid of the washer, but it does not turn. The washer is only 3 years. It stirs and drainage water, just not spinning. Please help!
